Waves of Words – 2019/2020 Anthology

The Words Anthology is an annual tradition that celebrates the writing of Burnaby students. This year’s edition, Waves of Words, is especially exciting because it features writing from three of our own Gilpin Gators: Matteo, Lisa, and Lilian. Congratulations to all three of you!

  • In the poem Dear Soccer, Matteo eloquently expresses how much this sport means to him! (Read it on Page 6 of the Anthology.)
  • In the short story The Egg, Lisa transforms an otherwise bad day into an encounter with something magical! (Read it on Page 14 of the Anthology.)
  • In the poem The Life of Fire, Lilian’s vivid, descriptive imagery makes fire leap off the page! (Read it on Page 18 of the Anthology,)

You can find all of these entries, and more, in the Waves of Words Anthology!

Readers’ Choice Award 2020

As part of literacy week, Gilpin Library held its first annual Readers’ Choice Award. Primary classes read three different picture books and voted for their favourite. It was a close vote, but the winning book was Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival! This is a lovely book with a simple yet powerful message about being yourself.

This year’s Readers’ Choice Award was designed by Tucker in Div. 6!
