An excellent resource by CMAS, a Canadian organization funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). It outlines Syrian culture and the refugee experience in order to help teachers support refugee students. http://blogs.sd41.bc.ca/ell/files/2018/02/CaringforSyrianRefugeeChildren.pdf

Thanks to Kris Hull, School District 36 for sharing this excellent resource! Teaching Refugees Handout

I’m your neighbor book project is for children’s books and reading projects building bridges between “new arrivals” and “long-term communities”

You’ll find a number of booklists according to theme, as well as a wonderful video: I’m New Here with a lovely corresponding book. This book  focuses on the strengths newcomer children already have, leading rich and complex lives in their home countries, where they know how to fully communicate and participate. Immigration, however it happens, means losses, and it means starting over, having to learn everything all over again. The video complements the ELL Newcomer video from the Vancouver School Board: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1HVb3Z_46k
