For this exhibition, participants (students, staff, and extended Central community) will create an original artistic piece, such as an illustration, photograph, painting, or musical composition, that reflects how we build community through acts of compassion.<\/p>\n

Coretta Scott King, author, activist, civil rights leader and wife of Martin Luther King Jr. once said, \u201cthe greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Driving Question:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

What roles can individuals play in building relationships that help foster and enrich our sense of community?<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Inspired by the African philosophy of \u2018Ubuntu\u2019, this year\u2019s This is Us<\/em> exhibition will focus on the essence of community.\u00a0The word\u202fubuntu<\/em>\u202fcomes from the Zulu\u202fand\u00a0Xhosa\u00a0languages of Africa and can be roughly translated as “humanity towards others.”\u202f According to the philosophy of Ubuntu,\u00a0community is defined as a\u00a0colourful\u00a0practice of collective compassion – in effect, that one\u2019s identity as a human depends on a community.<\/p>\n
