On behalf of the Student Outreach Team in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS) at UBC, we are excited to announce the schedule for our annual Taste of LFS Virtual Open House. As mentioned in our September email, this event is a week-long series that invites prospective students interested in applying to LFS to learn more about what being a student in our Faculty is really like. We hope your students will join us from Monday, November 18 – Thursday, November 21, 2024!
The week will feature:
- LFS General Information Session: Join our Academic Advisors for an overview of all things LFS. You’ll learn about our four degree programs and the specific majors therein as well as student support programs we offer and opportunities to get involved. You will also get the chance to ask professors, current students, and alumni about their experience in LFS!
- Food, Nutrition and Health (FNH) Deep Dive Session: Join our current FNH students, professors, and alumni as they take a closer look at the Food, Nutrition, and Health Program and the majors it offers. We’llfollow this up with a case study about the Nutrition Transition, so you can get the flavour of FNH coursework
- Food and Resource Economics (FRE) Deep Dive Session: Join current FRE students, professors, and alumni as they take a closer look at the new direct entry Food and Resource Economics program and the majors it offers. We’ll follow this up with a case study about the benefits of using economics to track human-wildlife conflict so you can get a taste of FRE coursework.
- Applied Biology (APBI) Deep Dive Session: Join our current APBI students, professors, and alumni as they take a closer look at the Applied Biology program and the majors it offers. We’ll follow this up with a case study on wildlife-human conflict to understand the possibilities of APBI coursework.
- Seeds of Success: LFS and Your Career: Join us for a lively panel discussion with LFS alumni, Parisa Kabir (BSc Global Resource Systems, 2023), Tim Wu (BSc Food, Nutrition and Health, major in Food, Nutrition and Health, 2022), and Vivian Li (BSc Food, Nutrition and Health, major in Nutritional Sciences, 2023), to learn about the paths they took after graduation – from grad school, to the private sector, to a career back at UBC. In this session, we will also cover the many career engagement opportunities and resources available to LFS students that helped Parisa, Tim, and Vivian prepare for their careers, and will help you write your own career story.
Registration is now open! You can find the schedule and register here.
We have also attached two promotional posters (version 1 and version 2), and we encourage you to share this information with your teaching colleagues, students, and parents so that any student interested in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at UBC may sign up for the event. Thank you in advance!

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to learn more about how you and your students can connect with us.
