Twin Texts help teachers encourage the enjoyment of reading while capitalizing on students&#8217; fascination of facts&#8221; (Deanne Camp, <em>The Reading Teacher<\/em>, Feb 2000).We will also be simultaneously looking at &#8220;narrative nonfiction&#8221;; nonfiction material told in a story format.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-458\" title=\"hummingbirds_hovering_sx\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/cascadeheights-library\/files\/2012\/04\/hummingbirds_hovering_sx.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" \/>The first book we will read is <a href=\"http:\/\/peachtree-online.com\/index.php\/book\/about-hummingbirds.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>About Hummingbirds<\/em> <\/a>by Cathryn Sill, a nonfiction guide to hummingbirds.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-454 aligncenter\" title=\"timthumb\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/cascadeheights-library\/files\/2012\/04\/timthumb-150x139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The week after, we will read a fiction story about hummingbirds, <em>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmpibooks.com\/book\/the-little-hummingbird\" target=\"_blank\">Little Hummingbird<\/a><\/em> by Michael Nicoll, for grades 1 &#8211; 3, and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abebooks.com\/Little-Green-Keith-Baker-Harcourt-Childrens\/5447864276\/bd\" target=\"_blank\">Little Green<\/a><\/em> by Keith Baker for the Kindergarteners.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-455\" title=\"littlehummingbird\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/cascadeheights-library\/files\/2012\/04\/littlehummingbird-104x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"104\" height=\"150\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-456\" title=\"littlegreen\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/cascadeheights-library\/files\/2012\/04\/littlegreen-150x130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the next 2 weeks we will be looking at fiction and nonfiction, specifically &#8220;Twin Texts&#8221;. &#8220;Teachers who use fiction and nonfiction trade books together may be rewarded with students who are excited about learning.
