{"id":2658,"date":"2019-01-05T06:18:40","date_gmt":"2019-01-05T06:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/byrnecreek-scholarships\/?p=2658"},"modified":"2019-01-05T06:19:25","modified_gmt":"2019-01-05T06:19:25","slug":"5-x-1000-for-students-who-support-mental-wellness-within-athletics-due-march-1st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/byrnecreek-scholarships\/2019\/01\/05\/5-x-1000-for-students-who-support-mental-wellness-within-athletics-due-march-1st\/","title":{"rendered":"5 x $1000 scholarships for students who support mental wellness within athletics: Due March 1st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The Rick Blight Leadership in Action Scholarship for Athletes<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you are an athlete living in the Lower Mainland or in the Sea-to-Sky Corridor who is passionate about your sport and has made efforts to support your personal mental health and wellness or that of your sports team or community, we want to hear from you. \u00a0This scholarship is made possible by the Vancouver Canucks Alumni.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PURPOSE OF SCHOLARSHIP<\/strong><br \/>\nIn tribute to Rick\u2019s life, the Crisis Centre is offering the Rick Blight Leadership in Action Scholarship for Athletes as a means to recognize the presence of mental wellness within athletics. Athleticism has the potential to be incredibly life promoting. It can also be competitive and prioritize physical wellness at the expense of mental and emotional well-being. \u00a0The Rick Blight Scholarship seeks to recognize athletes who have demonstrated both a dedication to leadership in their sport and an ongoing investment in their personal mental wellness and\/or that of their sports team or community. \u00a0Actions in support of one\u2019s personal mental wellness and\/or that of their sports team or community may be demonstrated through things such as visiting a mental health professional, encouraging peers to reach out when in need, involving oneself in emotionally-sustaining community activities, supporting anti-stigma efforts, forming LGBTQ alliances, or attending community events mandated to promote mental wellness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELIGIBILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A leader in your personal mental wellness and\/or that of your sports team, or community;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrating a dedication to your sport; and<\/li>\n<li>Currently enrolled in Grade 12 at a Lower Mainland\/Sea-to-Sky Corridor high school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The deadline for applications is Friday March 1, 2019 at 5pm. \u00a0Five scholarships valued at $1,000 will be awarded. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Award recipients will be asked to attend the Crisis Centre\u2019s Annual General Meeting in East Vancouver in the fall 2019 to receive their scholarship.
