TAIGA GALLI MEMORIAL REFUGEE AWARD<\/h2>\n

Application Deadline<\/span><\/h6>\n

The application deadline for the Taiga Galli Memorial Refugee Award is January 31st of each year. Successful applicants will be notified within six weeks of the application deadline.<\/p>\n

Description<\/span><\/h6>\n

The Taiga Galli Memorial Refugee Award is for a refugee who has shown courage and determination while adapting to a new language and culture in Canada. It is valued at $3,000.<\/p>\n

The Taiga Galli Memorial Refugee Award recognizes a student who:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Entered Canada as a refugee<\/li>\n
  2. Completed Grade 12 or the equivalent<\/li>\n
  3. Studied English as an additional language since arriving in Canada<\/li>\n
  4. Wishes to study in a vocational or academic program at a post-secondary institution in British Columbia<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    Criteria<\/span><\/h6>\n

    Applicants will be evaluated according to the following criteria:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Must be a Grade 12 or equivalent graduate who wishes to attend a BC post-secondary institution<\/li>\n
    2. Documented English language coursework at the secondary level<\/li>\n
    3. Documented school or community volunteer service<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      Application Requirements<\/span><\/h6>\n

      Applicants are required to submit:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. A description of the applicant\u2019s life before coming to Canada
        \na. Two pages in length, double-spaced, approximately 500 words<\/li>\n
      2. A personal essay (original copy signed by the applicant)
        \na. Topic: How a post-secondary education will enable the applicant to contribute to Canadian society<\/strong><\/em>
        \nb. Two pages in length, double-spaced, approximately 500 words<\/li>\n
      3. Two letters of reference:
        \na. One from a teacher regarding academic performance
        \nb. One from an administrator, counsellor, coach, sponsor, or coordinator regarding school or community volunteer service<\/li>\n
      4. Documented proof of permanent residency or Canadian citizenship<\/li>\n
      5. Transcripts documenting English language coursework or equivalent<\/li>\n

        Disbursement of Funds<\/span><\/h6>\n

        Funds will be disbursed as follows:<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. The recipient is expected to commence post-secondary education within one year of receiving the award.<\/li>\n
        2. The recipient must submit registration receipts from a BC post-secondary institution prior to the disbursement of funds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
