RULES & REGULATIONS<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0FAQ<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n

WHAT:<\/strong>\u00a0Submit your original, unpublished works of nonfiction up to 2000 words. There is no minimum.<\/p>\n

WHEN:<\/strong>\u00a0The competition is open for submissions from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2019.<\/p>\n

WHO:<\/strong> All Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.<\/p>\n

HOW:<\/strong>\u00a0While the competition is active, submit online by creating an account through Submittable<\/a>. A fee of $25.00 (taxes included) for administration purposes is required for each entry.<\/p>\n

WHAT YOU CAN WIN:<\/strong>\u00a0The winner receives $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts<\/a>, will have their story published on CBC Books<\/a> and\u00a0will have the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity<\/a>. Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts<\/a> and have their story published on CBC Books<\/a>.<\/p>\n

WHAT YOU CAN WRITE:\u00a0<\/strong>You can submit memoir, biography, humour writing, essay (including personal essay), travel writing and feature articles.<\/p>\n

WHO IS JUDGING: <\/strong>A team of\u00a0readers from across Canada will read the entries and determine the longlist. The shortlist and winner will be decided by a jury comprised of three prominent Canadian writers.<\/p>\n
