Schulich Leader Scholarships are prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to high school graduates enrolling in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) programs at our 20 Canadian partner universities.  Last year, 70% of winning recipients came from schools that had never produced a Schulich Leader before.  Now in its ninth year, Schulich Leader Scholarships have provided this life-changing opportunity to 370 students across Canada.

50 Schulich Scholarships are awarded each year:

  • 25 at $100,000 for engineering
  • 25 at $80,000 for science, technology or mathematics

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Graduate high school or Cégep in the 2019-20 academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Plan to enroll in STEM at one of our partner universities (there are 20 in Canada)
  • Meet at least two of the following criteria:
    • Academic excellence
    • Leadership (community, business or entrepreneurial)
  • Financial need
  • Planning to pursue a career in technology, innovation, engineering, or scientific research
  • Not planning a career as a medical practitioner or in medical research

How do you apply?

Submit an application package with the information below to Ms. Falsetto. Based on the information you provide, the Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee will nominate one student.

  • indicate which universities you wish to attend
  • indicate your top three achievements (academic or other)
  • submit a 600 word essay demonstrating why you should win
  • submit an optional 250 word essay outline extenuating circumstances
  • submit a short answer to identify where you see yourself in 10 years
  • submit two single-page letters o reference that include email and telephone contact information for verification
  • submit a copy of up-to-date transcript

Deadline to apply to the Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee is Monday, January 13, 2020.  The Byrne Creek committee will then determine who will be our school’s candidate. We will finalize our candidate before January 24th. The official deadline to apply to the Schulich Foundation is Wednesday, February 19, 2020.  More application information is available HERE.

$500-$1000 Society for Canadian Women in Science & Tech (SCHWIST) Scholarships: Due December 22, 2019

SCWIST has several scholarships and awards for girls who are working on challenging STEM projects or taking courses/camps related to STEM fields. These projects can be the conventional science-fair like projects or something more social like starting a STEM club at their school. The value of each scholarship ranges from $100 to $1000.

$1,000 Youth Leadership Award

Fascinated by science? Want a chance to excite others about science? This award is for female students in grade 10-12 for projects that require approximately 60 hours (or two weeks) worth of work. You will create a project of your own to promote careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We are looking for innovative projects that make use of a variety of skills such as writing, fine arts, dance, and theatre. Think YouTube videos about science or card games that explore different science careers. The successful candidate will receive a $250 honorarium for supplies to start the project and the remaining $750 honorarium upon completion of the project.

$500 Youth Skills Development Scholarship

Number of awards: 3 for Cycle 1; 4 for Cycle 2

The Youth Skills Development Scholarship was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday! Through this scholarship, SCWIST hopes to foster 150 years of innovation and excellence in Canada. The scholarship is open to girls (age 16-21) who have participated in Quantum Leaps Conferences or eMentoring and is awarded to cover costs of professional development. The scholarship can be used to cover costs of attending Science Fair or participating in science-related camps or courses. This $500 scholarship must be put towards the cost of professional development of equal or greater value, this includes associated costs or attendance. If students are applying for funding for a program that they have not yet been accepted to, their award is contingent on them being accepted (at which point the money will be distributed).
