SELECTION COMMITTEE CRITERIA GUIDELINES

  • „Apply to the Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee first
  • Then, the Burnaby Scholarship Committee will submit two nominations to the BCIT  Pathway to Success committee
  • „Selected students must meet or exceed the program’s entrance requirements. BCIT entrance requirements are program specific. For further information visit bcit.ca.
  • „Students must have applied to a full time first year technology, technical studies, or trade program (excluding Apprentice) and have a BCIT student number before being considered for an award.
  • „The award offer is subject to the student receiving full acceptance into a full-time BCIT program. Should the student(s) not gain full acceptance or not register for a full time program, the award will automatically be withdrawn.

AWARD-SPECIFIC INFORMATION

  • Selection is based on demonstrated leadership skills and/or additional responsibilities.
  • Examples are: „ Leadership training/courses, Volunteer and/or community service, Work experience, Captain/president of sports team or group, Involvement in extracurricular activities, Plays a major role in supporting their family, financially or otherwise „ Letter of recommendation from school district

$1500 Betty Spalton Scholarship for road building and heavy construction. Deadline May 31

The Betty Spalton Trust Fund was established in 1999 to provide financial support to individuals obtaining an education in fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry. As one of the goals of this fund is to encourage diversity in the industry, preference is given to females and/or members of minority groups. The fund honours Betty Spalton, an industry and Association leader who died after a brief illness in 1999.

WHO MAY APPLY

  • Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance or heavy construction.
  • Preference will be given to students who are female and/or members of minority groups.
  • Program of study may be either full time or part-time at any B.C. college, university, technical or trades institute.
  • Individuals returning back-to-school to upgrade their skills and knowledge are welcome to apply.
  • The judges reserve the right to not award the scholarship if there is no suitable candidate.
  • All applicants must be Canadian citizens.

APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE

  • A brief 250 – 500 word essay explaining interest in obtaining an education in the eld and career goals.
  • Transcripts from any secondary and post-secondary institutions attended.
  • A current resume.

$2000 Nurses Educational Scholarship for students enrolling in Nursing School. Deadline April 30th

This scholarship is for all students seeking a career in nursing. Students eligible include those who will be attending nursing school within the next 12 months, those currently enrolled in a nursing program, and those who graduated from a nursing program in the past 12 months.

Eligibility
Any individual at least sixteen (16) years old who meets one of the following criteria:

1) Currently attending high school (or equivalent) and will be attending an accredited university or college nursing program in the next academic year.
2) Currently attending an accredited university or college nursing program (undergraduate and graduate students are both eligible)

  • demonstrated a high level of motivation to continue to develop skills and abilities in the chosen profession
  • demonstrated plans to continue in studies in the chosen field at post-secondary or apprenticeship training

Update! This scholarship is now to $3,500! In previous years, it was $2,500. We have had Byrne Creek students win this award in the past… your applications are reviewed with care and attention. If you meet the criteria, we hope you apply.

The Coast Capital Savings Standing Tall Awards support youth who have faced adversity and not only risen up against the odds, but are demonstrating a commitment to continue their education. This award is open to students who have faced challenges like poverty, health issues, family issues, personal loss, or lack of supports (for example, youth who are, or who have been, in government care).

How to apply:

  • the Byrne Creek Scholarship Committee will select one candidate to represent our school
  • Ms. Falsetto will strongly advocate for you at the Burnaby District Scholarship meeting

2017 was an exciting year for the JCI Institute Fashion Department. We recorded an over 90% graduation employment rate and sought-after new graduates were hired with elite industry leaders including Lululemon, Aritzia and Antropologie (to name a few). In addition to working with local fashion heavy-weights, our graduates have also gone on to gain international exposure.

We were thrilled to celebrate a 2017 Core Fashion Design design graduate who showcased her line at Tokyo Fashion Week and has been featured in numerous publications including Vogue and Nylon magazine; all before her 19th birthday.

4 x $2500 Trevor Linden Scholarship for COMMUNITY SERVICE! Deadline is March 15th

Are you in good academic standing? Have you made significant contributions to our community?  If yes, this scholarship is for you!
Eligibility Requirements:
  • must have participated in a leadership role in community and school service work or volunteer activities.
  • must have a cumulative high school grade point percentage of at least 65%
  • must reside within the province of British Columbia
  • must plan to enroll, for the first time, beginning in the fall, a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited post secondary institution or vocational technical school
  • must have made exceptional contributions to both school and community service, initiating community development, leadership, affecting positive change, mentoring others, and/or personal development and growth
 Application Requirements:
  • 600 word double spaced essay describing applicant’s community involvement, highlighting great achievement(s)
  • A letter of reference describing the impact of his/her involvement
  • Up to date copy of high school transcript
 
Taking the time to do something for others during difficult times in one’s own life requires particularly outstanding commitment. $2000 FCSSBC Youth Education Bursary for youth who were in care: Deadline Friday, May 4th

The FCSSBC Youth Education Bursary assists young people that are or have been in care and want to pursue a career in the field of Human and Social Services. Bursaries support students with the financial costs of tuition, books, and supplies for post-secondary academic education, training, or upgrading. The bursary is available to a maximum of $2,000 per academic year (two semesters).

$2500 Ted Rogers Scholarship for Indigenous students: Deadline is THIS Monday, March 5th

Indspire is seeking exemplary Indigenous high school leaders to apply for the 2018-2019 Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund (For Indigenous Students). This is a $2500 renewable award for students entering their first year in full time studies in a two-year college diploma program or a four-year undergraduate program at a Canadian accredited college or university in fall 2018.
 
Applicants MUST have strong leadership and commitment in their school and home community.
 
Application for is HEREThe application is brief and easy to complete. Students will be asked to provide their personal contact information, post-secondary information for the fall and proof of Indigenous status along with completing two short essay questions.
 
Selected students will be asked to complete a second application and provide one letter of reference. They will be required to submit a proof of enrollment prior to receiving an award.
Submissions are due by March 5th.
