{"id":3888,"date":"2021-05-09T20:11:31","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T03:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/alpha-scholarships\/?p=3888"},"modified":"2021-05-09T20:12:50","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T03:12:50","slug":"3888","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/alpha-scholarships\/2021\/05\/09\/3888\/","title":{"rendered":"District Authority Scholarship DEADLINE: May 28th, 2021 to Ms. McChesney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>District\/\u00a0 Authority Scholarships Criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>student must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident at time of application<\/li>\n<li>student will graduate by August 31, 2021<\/li>\n<li>student has demonstrated excellence in non-academic field(s) from\u00a0<strong>ONE of\u00a0<\/strong>the following areas\u00a0<strong>and enrolling in a post secondary program to continue studies in their chosen elective area<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ELECTIVE AREAS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Technical and Trades Training (Carpentry, Automotive, Mechanics, Cook Training, Youth Train in Trades Programs)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 min. 2.5 GPA (based on best 10 gr. 11 and 12, 4 credit courses including minimum of FOUR courses from chosen area (courses may include WEX 12A\/ B)<\/p>\n<p><strong>International Languages (w\/ curriculum or external assessments, may include AP\/ IB)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 min. 2.5 GPA (based on best 10 gr. 11 and 12, 4 credit courses including minimum of FOUR courses from chosen area (courses may include WEX 12A\/ B)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical Acitivity (Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, PE, District Fitness Leadership Program)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 min. 2.5 GPA (based on best 10 gr. 11 and 12, 4 credit courses including minimum of FOUR courses from chosen area (courses may include WEX 12A\/ B)<\/p>\n<p><strong>INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE AND CULTURE:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0portfolio of work showing participation\u00a0community service\/ volunteer activity\u00a0in this area:\u00a0 participation in min. 300 hrs community service\/ volunteer activity over gr 10 \u2013 12<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applied Skills (Bus Ed, Tech Ed, Home Ec, Computer Networking, Hotel and Event Management, Hairstyling)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 min. 2.5 GPA (based on best 10 gr. 11 and 12, 4 credit courses including minimum of FOUR courses from chosen area (courses may include WEX 12A\/ B)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music, Digital Sound, Film, Graphics)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 min. 2.5 GPA (based on best 10 gr. 11 and 12, 4 credit courses including minimum of FOUR courses from chosen area (courses may include WEX 12A \/ B)<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMUNITY SERVICE:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0(in\/ out of school) local and global issues and cultural awareness, extensive involvement in student gov\u2019t\/ councils, significant participation and leadership in a service-oriented club, hours required over gr 10 \u2013 12 beyond course requirements<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have taken ONE leadership course \u2013 min. 300 community service hours<\/li>\n<li>If you have not taken any leadership course \u2013 min. 400 community service hours<\/li>\n<li>work experience hours contribute if directly related to service-related career requiring post-secondary training\u00a0(eg. nursing, childcare, tourism, policing, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>students to provide evidence of their service in form of letter\/ document with dates, hours, and description of duties signed by adult manager\/ supervisor\/ organization (with FULL CONTACT INFO of supervisor)<\/li>\n<li>other courses may apply if there is direct and obvious relationship to chosen elective area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please e-mail the completed application to me directly at adrienne.mcchesney@burnabyschools.ca\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">BY MAY 28<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">APPLICATION:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/alpha-scholarships\/files\/2021\/05\/district-authority-scholarship-description-and-application-2020-2021-1.doc\">district-authority-scholarship-description-and-application-2020-2021 (1)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>District\/\u00a0 Authority Scholarships Criteria: student must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident at time of application student will graduate by August 31, 2021 student has demonstrated excellence in non-academic field(s) from\u00a0ONE of\u00a0the following areas\u00a0and enrolling in a post secondary &hellip;
