{"id":3805,"date":"2021-01-11T10:45:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-11T18:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/alpha-scholarships\/?p=3805"},"modified":"2021-01-11T10:45:20","modified_gmt":"2021-01-11T18:45:20","slug":"pathway-to-teacher-education-scholarship-5000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.sd41.bc.ca\/alpha-scholarships\/2021\/01\/11\/pathway-to-teacher-education-scholarship-5000\/","title":{"rendered":"Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship &#8211; $5000"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Attention Students Intending to Become Teachers!<\/h3>\n<p>The Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K\u201312 teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher that they can redeem with the Ministry of Education after they are attending an approved K\u201312 teacher education program at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/education-training\/k-12\/teach\/resources-for-teachers\/training-and-professional-development\/teacher-education-programs\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of B.C.\u2019s nine Faculties of Education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Students have seven years to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/education-training\/k-12\/support\/scholarships\/provincial-scholarships\/using-a-scholarship#post-secondary-verification\">redeem<\/a>\u00a0their Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship vouchers; an\u00a0expiry date is printed on each voucher and extensions are not possible.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Key dates<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">February 15, 2021<\/span><\/strong>: applications due by 11:59pm PST<\/li>\n<li>Early June 2021: conditional recipients and their schools notified by email<\/li>\n<li>September 2021:\u00a0conditional recipients checked against eligibility requirements<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2021: paper scholarship vouchers mailed to confirmed recipients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Eligibility requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Students selected as conditional recipients of the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship must meet the following requirements<strong>\u00a0by August 31 of their graduating year<\/strong>\u00a0to be confirmed as a recipient and receive their scholarship voucher:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/education-training\/k-12\/support\/scholarships\/provincial-scholarships\/basic-eligibility-requirements\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">meet basic eligibility requirements<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma);<\/li>\n<li>fulfill the requirements of the B.C. Graduation Program;<\/li>\n<li>be graduating in the same year the scholarship is awarded; and<\/li>\n<li>have the following final marks.\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum \u201cB\u201d average in grades 11 and 12 courses required for graduation<\/li>\n<li>Minimum &#8220;B&#8221; (73% or above) in Language Arts 12<\/li>\n<li>Minimum \u201cB\u201d average, no more than one &#8220;C+&#8221; (67% or above), and no marks lower than \u201cC+\u201d in courses that fulfill graduation requirements for Science\u00a011\u00a0or 12, Math\u00a011, and Social Studies 11\u00a0or 12<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: students may apply for both the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/education-training\/k-12\/support\/scholarships\/provincial-scholarships\/bc-excellence-scholarships\">BC\u00a0Excellence scholarship<\/a>\u00a0but can be awarded only one.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">How applications are evaluated<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Written statements are assessed by teams of B.C. teachers using\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/assets\/download\/E4865F503E3D45AAB2F906B5F95251C0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">marking guidelines<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A subset of candidates is shortlisted<\/li>\n<li>The resume packages for these students are assessed by the scholarship committee, which includes B.C. teachers, using the marking guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Twenty candidates are named as conditional recipients<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Preparation<\/h2>\n<p class=\"bc_paragraph\">Students are encouraged to get organized well before the application deadline of 11:59pm PST on\u00a0February\u00a015,\u00a02021.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Record the key dates noted above<\/li>\n<li>Plan to meet all eligibility requirements<\/li>\n<li>Understand that the online application must be completed in one session because it cannot be saved and completed later; preview the online application and follow the instructions to prepare information offline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Apply<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gov.bc.ca\/education-training\/bc-pathway-to-teacher-education-scholarship-application\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship application<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attention Students Intending to Become Teachers!
