To prepare, please see details below.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"body\">\n<p class=\"bc_paragraph\">The BC Excellence scholarship is awarded to 55 well-rounded high school graduates who have demonstrated\u00a0<strong>service\u00a0and leadership<\/strong>, both at school and in their communities, and who <strong>show\u00a0aptitude for and commitment to their chosen career paths.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"bc_paragraph\">Recipients receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher that they can redeem with the Ministry of Education after they are attending a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaidbc.ca\/apply\/designated\">designated post-secondary institution<\/a>\u00a0or B.C.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itabc.ca\/training-providers\/overview\">authorized trades training provider.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Key dates<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>February 15, 2021: applications due by 11:59pm PST<\/li>\n<li>Early June 2021: conditional recipients and their schools notified by email<\/li>\n<li>September 2021: conditional recipients checked against eligibility requirements<\/li>\n<li>Fall 2021: paper scholarship vouchers mailed to confirmed recipients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Eligibility requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Students selected as conditional recipients of the BC Excellence scholarship must meet the following requirements\u00a0<strong>by August 31 of their graduating year<\/strong>\u00a0to be confirmed as a recipient and receive their scholarship voucher:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/education-training\/k-12\/support\/scholarships\/provincial-scholarships\/basic-eligibility-requirements\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">meet basic eligibility requirements<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma);<\/li>\n<li>fulfill the requirements of the B.C. Graduation Program;<\/li>\n<li>be graduating in the same year the scholarship is awarded; and<\/li>\n<li>have the following final marks.\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum \u201cB\u201d average in grades 11 and 12 courses required for graduation.<\/li>\n<li>Minimum &#8220;B&#8221; (73% or above) in Language Arts 12.<\/li>\n<li>Minimum \u201cB\u201d average, no more than one &#8220;C+&#8221; (67% or above), and no marks lower than \u201cC+\u201d in courses that fulfill graduation requirements for Science\u00a011\u00a0or 12, Math\u00a011, and Social Studies 11\u00a0or 12.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: students may apply for both the BC Excellence scholarship and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/gov\/content\/education-training\/k-12\/support\/scholarships\/provincial-scholarships\/pathway-to-teacher-education-scholarship\">Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship<\/a>\u00a0but they can only be awarded one.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">How applications are evaluated<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Written statements are assessed by teams of B.C. teachers using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/assets\/gov\/education\/kindergarten-to-grade-12\/support\/awards\/excellence-written-and-resume-marking-guide.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the marking guidelines<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A subset of candidates is shortlisted.<\/li>\n<li>The resume packages for these students are assessed by the scholarship committee, which includes B.C. teachers, using the marking guidelines.<\/li>\n<li>Fifty-five candidates are named as conditional recipients.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Preparation<\/h2>\n<p class=\"bc_paragraph\">Students are encouraged to get organized well before the application deadline of 11:59pm PST on\u00a0February\u00a015,\u00a02021.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Record the key dates noted above<\/li>\n<li>Plan to meet all eligibility requirements<\/li>\n<li>Understand students must be nominated by their secondary school to qualify for this scholarship and each school may nominate one student only<\/li>\n<li>Understand that the online application must be completed in one session because it cannot be saved and completed later; preview the online application and follow the instructions to prepare information offline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"bc_h2\">Apply<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gov.bc.ca\/education-training\/bc-excellence-scholarship-application\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BC Excellence scholarship application<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Students are encouraged to inform their high schools of any address changes.
