And so is this <a href=\"https:\/\/sd41-my.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/g\/personal\/e18846_burnabyschools_ca\/EQiUC2-pJpVJgauOquX_GXoBoQzEDuKIYIday1SbJxB5rg?e=YxOA1M\">CRAAP Detection Checklist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Always evaluate websites<\/span> for information quality and reliability because anyone can publish information on the internet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Academic research is different from personal research\u00a0<\/span>because academic research requires current, correct, and well-documented information written by institutions\/people who are authorities on their subjects.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Sites should be unbiased<\/span> UNLESS biased information is useful for a particular assignment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">The World Wide Web is a place of business<\/span>, and sites that want to sell products or services have a different purpose from sites that exist to educate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Use these <span style=\"color: #993366;\">ABCs<\/span> as a guide to critically evaluate information on the Web.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Authority<\/span><br \/>\nWho or what organization is publishing the content?\u00a0 Do they have the knowledge and expertise to publish information about this topic? This information is often found in the <em>About Us<\/em> or <em>Contact<\/em> section of a site.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Bias\/Purpose<\/span><br \/>\nIs this a commercial site that is trying to sell a service or a product or a site that exists primarily to educate? Does the publishing group and\/or author have a bias?\u00a0\u00a0 Are there multiple points-of-view analyzed and expressed?\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Content<\/span><br \/>\nDoes the content fit the research question\/assignment? Is the information correct? Read background information about your topic from a reputable source such as a textbook or database first.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Currency<\/span><br \/>\nIs there a publication or update date attached to the article or site?
