At our first book club meeting for 2015 we had a spirited discussion on The Humans by Matt Haig. The Humans is a great sci-fi read about an extra-terrestrial who arrives on Earth to complete a gruesome task.
He sees humans as “of midrange intelligence, living a largely deluded existence on a small waterlogged planet” and whose chief characteristics are greed and violence. We talked about what it means to be human and whether it’s preferable to live a peaceful existence based on pure reason if it means giving up passion, love, peanut butter, and our flawed human state. The Humans is a terrific read and is one of the new Alpha Reads for 2015.
Next book club meeting in late February. Stay tuned!
